KUALA LUMPUR: A snatch thief suspect was killed after the motorcycle he was riding was accidentally hit by the car driven by his victim in an incident near Taman Tasik Titiwangsa last night.
The 29-year-old man from Seremban died at the scene due to severe head injuries.
Sentul OCPD ACP Zakaria Pagan said the victim, a 28-year-old woman, was driving towards Pahang roundabout when a man on a motorcycle forced her to pull over near a petrol station in Taman Tasik Titiwangsa.
"The man claimed that the victim's car hit his motorcycle and asked for a payment. The victim then handed over RM42 but the man suddenly grabbed her hand bag and fled the scene on motorcycle.
"The victim gave chase. However, upon arriving a dead end near a golf course, the man suddenly stopped and the victim, who was unable to stop the car on time, hit the motorcycle," he told reporters, adding that golf club workers who heard the loud collision contacted the police.
Police had taken the statement from the woman, who works as a marketing executive, he said.
Meanwhile, Zakaria said police arrested nine members of car theft gang known as Geng Mustapha Badol.
The men, aged between 18 and 52 years, were arrested in a series of operations in Kuala Lumpur, Pahang, Kelantan and Perak between Oct 6 and 30.
Police also seized 21 lorries and two private cars, all worth RM1.5 million, he said.
"The gang is believed to be active since last year, targeting lorries and selling them for RM4,000 to RM6,000 each to buyers in rural areas," he said, adding that police were still hunting for six more gang members, including the leader. - Bernama
